HELLO WONDER – CHILDREN EVENT

With the desire to spread the passion for African music in Vietnam and across South East Asia, especially for children. Tomi and the Afrocalypso collectives had an exciting  performance during the  Hello Wonder event, which was hosted by Wonder – Art & Education. It took place in Ly Thai To 2 nursery school, number 2 Nguyen Thi Thap, the Trung Hoa precinct, Cau Giay district, Ha Noi.

Hello Wonder was known widely as a Baby & Children concert consisting of a series of mini – stories that increased the knowledge of Vietnamese’s children about the world. In the fifth story, Hello Wonder program and the performers – Tomi appeared in a unique African traditional clothes shirt while everyone in the band had a traditional musical instrument with them, for instance: gangan (talking drum), shekere (shakers), agogo (wood block), ect.

In the live music program, Tomi and the group performed meaningful folk songs, mostly songs that have special message for the little ones, “Seven Lives, written by Segen Akinlolu” was one of the songs that encourages children to be brave, strong and most importantly to be respectful wherever they go, as that is the great value from home. The highlight of their performance was showcasing the diverse West African traditional musical instruments.

Their meaningful performance had attracted enormous Vietnamese children as well as their parents who took part in the program. They not only learned about valuable stories about family but also had a chance to be exposed to West African traditional musical instruments and were taught how to play with them. That was the meaningful lesson Tomi and the band wanted to teach to children.
