Earlier this week, I had the privilege of speaking and facilitating a community gathering focused on a theme that resonates deeply with many people living abroad, rediscovering strength in hard times.
Life abroad presents opportunities for growth, but it also brings unique challenges. Many individuals quietly carry the weight of distance from family, uncertainty about the future, financial pressure, cultural adaptation, and emotional strain. These struggles are often unseen, yet deeply felt.

This gathering was created to provide a safe and encouraging space where members of the African community in Hanoi could come together, not just to listen, but to connect, reflect, and strengthen one another.
Creating Space for Honest Conversations: The event brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds who share a common journey of navigating life away from home. Through meaningful discussions, uplifting music, shared meals, and open dialogue, participants were reminded that strength is not simply the absence of struggle, it is the courage to keep moving forward despite challenges.
During my message, titled “Rediscovering Strength in Hard Times: Fanning the Flame of Hope and Courage Back to Life,” I emphasized the importance of maintaining inner resilience even when external circumstances feel overwhelming.
We discussed:
- The hidden pressures many migrants experience while living abroad
- The importance of building trusted support networks
- How small acts of encouragement can reignite hope
- The role of faith, God, community, and shared experiences in overcoming adversity

What stood out most was the openness and sincerity of those present. Many shared personal experiences, lessons learned, and strategies that have helped them stay grounded during difficult seasons.
Strength Through Community Connection: One of the most powerful aspects of the gathering was the reminder that strength grows stronger when shared. Moments of laughter during activities, sincere conversations over meals, and collective encouragement created an atmosphere where individuals felt seen, heard, and supported. These interactions reinforced a simple but powerful truth:
Community is one of the greatest sources of resilience: When people feel connected, they are more likely to make wise decisions, seek help when needed, and support others who may be struggling.
Leadership Beyond Systems, Leadership Through People: In my work across technology systems, humanitarian outreach, and community leadership, I have seen that sustainable strength is built through intentional relationships. While systems and strategies are important, true transformation happens when people feel supported, empowered, and encouraged.
Events like this remind us that leadership is not only about managing operations or solving technical challenges, it is also about nurturing environments where people can rediscover hope and courage.
Moving Forward With Renewed Strength: As the evening concluded, there was a shared sense of renewed encouragement and purpose. People left not only with words of inspiration but with strengthened relationships and a deeper understanding that they are not alone in their journey.
Moments like this reaffirm my commitment to supporting communities through meaningful conversations, mentorship, and practical engagement. Because sometimes, the most powerful transformation begins with a simple reminder, even in hard times, strength can be rediscovered, hope can be renewed, and courage can be reignited.
