2018 marked the 64th year of Hanoi’s Liberation Day and 1,008 years of Thang Long – Hanoi. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnam opened enormous events as well as programs to celebrate one of the most memorable events in the year. So, “2018 International Food Festival” was one of the activities which was taken for the anniversary. There were many diverse countries that came to introduce their major food and traditional culture, including Tomi and Afrocalypso Band.
Tomi and the band’s appearances in the concert that brought a lot of positive energy to the attendance, attracted numerous people who came to witness.
One of the highlight of the event was the African style dance performance by the Afrocalypso dance group, with their energetic moves, they glamorously appeared in danshiki, agbada and igbo traditional attire. It was a great memory for many who attended, especially those that visited the Nigerian Embassy food booth to taste the most talked about street food “SUYA”.
Suya has been known widely in the world as a traditional smoked meat which originated from Northern Nigeria and then quickly spread across West Africa. With the eye – catching decoration, wrapped on the newspaper, along with cucumbers, red onions,fresh tomatoes and Yajin kuli. All the ingredients had combined to become a unique, smoky, and complex flavor with an attractive smell and beautiful color. This unique dish caught enormous attendance’s attention. People participating in the cultural festival had a chance to be exposed to Suya – one of the most famed street foods in West Africa, particularly Nigeria. People who joined the event were impressed by Suya’s unique taste and eye – catching decoration.
